  • Maura's Vows

    When we met 5 years ago on a soccer field, I never imagined that we would be standing here today. Little did I know that sending you an awkward email asking for a ride home would have such a significant and amazing impact on my life.

    As I got to know you, I quickly grew to love your quirky personality and bad jokes. I couldn't have found a more perfect life partner. You're always game for turning every vacation into a road trip where we drive hundreds of miles to see & do it all. And although you clearly do a better job at concealing it than I do, you are also a crazy cat person. I love that you accept and truly enjoy me for the somewhat loony person that I am. And you complement me in so many ways - your emotion to my sarcasm, your imagination to my matter of fact-ness, and your organization to my piles.

    I promise to always support your aspirations and your passions, regardless of how many bikes you stockpile in our basement, and more importantly I promise to always call you out whenever your stories get slightly exaggerated. I'm excited to see what life has in store for us at Philahicks and beyond, and could not be any happier to be sharing this journey with you. I love you and look forward to a lifetime of road trips together.

    Keanan's Vows

    The proposal was a surprise, with you having one shoe on and watching your favorite comedian on a lazy Sunday after a few great days with both our families ...today: this is our family. But this time, you’re up here with me and I certainly hope not surprised to be.

    I’m amazed by your understanding and addicted to your laugh. Your smile is contagious - except when it's scheming while holding a cat. Much is unneeded to be said between us, but needs to be said about how great you - and we - are. You've rolled your eyes through many situations and directed firmly in others, yet somehow, wonderfully and consistently, are not phased nor tired by my antics - or maybe just have quite a short memory. I have more projects and jobs than are trackable; more bikes than I let you know about; maybe too often say "Let's rip that wall out" and OH by the way, I might have signed us up for a second soccer game tonight.

    I know you may be slightly annoyed every time I ask “What song is playing?” — but today, in this special moment, with these special rings, with our histories and our families and our community around us - neither of us can quite answer that question — as its one we've just begun to write. And what I do know is that what we've written so far, I love.

    Ashley O'Brien

    Met in high school & instantly bonded over our affinity for bag lady culture & desire to complete the Friendly's 12-scoop challenge. The culture has been adopted; the challenge remains a goal/dream.

    Rachel West

    Met in kindergarten when I dared Rachel to break a crayon & she was put in timeout. Although I have trouble remembering this (pretty run of the mill behavior for me), Rachel was scarred for life.

    Stephanie Flowers

    Met learning to swim at the town reservoir as little tykes. Our friendship came full circle as Six Flags lifeguards in college - will never get over Steph's first rescue in socks!

    Shauna Henley

    'Berg soccer teammate - quickly became my parents' 2nd daughter. She has taught me everything I know about red-tailed hawks, (not) washing poultry, & that pam can be used as water-repellant on soccer cleats.

    Stacey Zimmer

    'Berg soccer teammate, college roomie & partner in crime in the city of brotherly love. Fun fact: have ridden together in (the cab of) a garbage truck - when in Rome!

    Sarah Anderson

    Fellow mathletes at Clemson. We have been known to disappear from the bar early in search of fro-yo & pitas - the finer things in life! Also take the best facas.

    groomsmen

    Cass Barbour

    My brother and lifelong compadre, as we've known each other since a very young age. Many a fort was built; early morning marching bands; the VW Rabbit project; and, I do blame him for my obsession with bikes.

    Dan Debes

    Met me, in my boxers, on the first day of college, while his parents looked on in awe and/or frustration. We once hosted a radio show; I've also submerged his kayak while trying to rescue a could-be-alien.

    Ryan Wikane

    Instant guy love was found via fondness of bikes and an odd urban neighborhood projects as an introduction to college. We grew annual mustaches for Pete'o'phila's Bar and once pulled a fast one on JH with a plunger.

    Graham Miller

    A fellow education nerd, we found each other in grad school. Bonds were made over our appreciation of Philly's hole-in-the-wall eating, drinking, and music establishments.

    Andrew Khouri

    One of my first friends in Philly, we also met on a soccer field. The first to meet Maura, who was sleeping in the diner. He's the #1 cat uncle, with many-a-doppelgänger.

    Colin Hendsey

    Brother of the bride and bro to the groom, can always count on him for late night 7-11, quizzo, and taking my side when Maura's Maura.

    Poem compilation, by Russell Barbour

    as read by Robin & Cass Barbour

    We celebrate love let loose tonight

    So many wing beats of the Spirit

    Touched by the tips of swooping Doves,

    Lighting on heads, faces, lips and hearts.
    Releasing our hopes for this joyful union.

    Oh to be free with the joy of the new;

    To be aware of the wholly authentic;

    To know that this is meant to be;

    The mark of our beloved community.

    Let us sing a new song for the new bound lovers

    Sing and rejoice, for It is good for these to be together.

    Oh wonderful; Wonderful

    Most Wonderful

    And yet again, wonderful
